The Football Crest Index is an independent project founded to document and preserve the rich history behind the crests of football clubs from around the world.
Their debut publication was released in 2017. This edition delved into the history of 49 clubs to have graced the Premier League since its inception in 1992. To represent each club, they hand-picked 49 designers who support each club to produce original & exclusive artwork to sit alongside their club history, giving each spread a unique execution. I was selected and given the opportunity to represent Chelsea FC.
The overall aim for the company is to index every single crest from across the globe whilst raising money for charity along the way.
Design SOLUTION explained
In the history of Chelsea Football Club, 48 countries have been represented at international level. To symbolise this, I created an abstract design, using 48 strokes to symbolise each of these teams, combining to represent to one club.
The sound wave effect incorporated in the design represents not only the atmosphere generated on a match day at Stamford Bridge but also the collective ‘noise' generated from fans around the world. With Chelsea football clubs biggest success stories coming about in the more recent years, the global brand is now resonating world wide with an ever increasing fan base.
